Today the world is commemorating the 400th year since Shakespeare’s death. So I’m taking this truly unique opportunity to celebrate his lasting legacy by letting you guys in on a few secrets facts about me.

I love reading Shakespeare

In senior year at school I used to love the fact that we had to read Shakespeare in English class. Although a lot of people find it incredible annoying I found it really easy to memorize entire passages from the plays. And I can still recite most of them. I’m a huge fan of the tragedies. And Macbeth is probably my favourite. To take it even further, I think this joke is incredibly funny (yes, I’m a nerd):

Shakespeare walks into a bar. The bartender says, “Hey. Get out of here! You’re bard!”

So have you read Shakespeare? Do you have a favourite play? Or is it just not for you?

Incidentally today also is World Book Day. Another slight obsession of mine…

My living-room is full of books

I was talking to a colleague at work the other day and we were surprised to find a fellow booklover which seems to have become rare in our generation. Don’t get me wrong – I love technology and I’d be lost without Wikipedia – but I would never dream of giving my books away or throwing them out. I think they are just such an integral part of who we are. Plus, there’s nothing more relaxing than sitting in a library surrounded by books…

So, I hope you’re all having a fabulous weekend so far! I promise to be back with a new outfit post soon. Let me end with the words of the bard:

    Great Post, enjoy reading it! I used to read lots of novels and plays and Shakespeare was certainly one of my favorites, though I get busy with my works and hardly read now.. sigh :(
    Macbeth was such a riveting story, but Hamlet & Julius Caesar are nothing less magnificent.

    I LOVE Shakespeare. I don’t know why some people hate it so much. The comedies are hilarious and none of the books are really that hard too read!

    Yes, I have read him and quite a LOT too, in high school in New York. At that time I wasn’t so impressed but now that I’m older I love his plays. Just two nights ago we watched Othello here on Italian TV, with Kenneth Branagh as the bad guy. What a shame, he’s too cute to play a mean person. Kenneth is my favorite actor, I love his Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing with his ex-wife Emma Thompson. Have a nice Sunday, happy to meet you.

    It’s so refreshing to know that you love Shakespeare, as I do too! I like tragedies, but I confess, I love comedies and Much Ado About Nothing is one of my favorites! I love books and also have a lot at home, and as I said, it’s so good to know that you like it, since I know some bloggers that simply only read fashion magazines and blogs and despise the ones who like culture.     Toller Post! Ich könnte auch nicht ohne Bücher leben, ich habe Germanistik studiert und liebe diese ganzen alten Dramen auch total. Im Moment lese ich Goethes Werther und ich könnte ständig irgendwas markieren :-D

    What a lovely post! I didn’t know that you were a fellow Shakespeare’s lover. I hold a MA degree in English language and literature so as you may imagine I’ve read my fair share of Shakespeare…and I absolutely love him! I really enjoyed that course at the University that was reserved only for him. We had such fun debating his plays, I do miss those days. Macbeth is my favourite tragedy of his, there was a period in my life when I would read it before bed almost every night. I must have read it a hundred times! Macbeth was always a special play for me. A relative of mine who is quite a famous actress in my homeland used to play lady Macbeth and I was so mesmarized by her image on the poster ( I’ll never forget how utterly beautiful she looked) that I was really upset when my parents wouldn’t let me see her perform (which made sense because I was something like 10 at the time so I probably wouldn’t have understood it anyway).

    Don’t worry, there are still a lot of bookworms and book lovers in the world. If you google book reviews or you search for them on youtube, you’ll be surprised at how many of us are out there and how many people still genuinely enjoy reading. I used to have a goodreads profile but I lost it when my old yahoo account was hacked a few years back. I’m thinking about opening it again because I miss talking with people about books. I do have a blog dedicated to reading and books reviews and I plan to work on it more in the future.
