EOS Lip Balm Pomegranate Raspberry – yay or nay? | Review

H&M beads and mesh necklace and Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Rose Brown

EOS lip balms have been uberhyped by the blogosphere lately. So when I finally got my hands on this dainty pomegranate and raspberry sphere I decided to write my impressions up for you.

Design and Packaging: Undoubtedly, the colourful cubic design is cute and unusual looking for anyone who’s grown up with the classic ChapStick products. Incidentally, the fuchsia pink also went rather well with my Essie Bahama Mama manicure when I took these photos.

Smell and Feel: The pomegranate raspberry flavour has a nice smell which is neither overpowering nor annoying. I personally couldn’t detect any raspberry or pomegranate either though – it’s just a sweet fruity smell. I’m quite sensitive to synthetic smells in general so it’s a plus that I actually find this one rather pleasant. Once applied, it feels smooth on the lips and doesn’t dry them out too quickly. It has a slightly sweet taste though which may not be for everyone.

Effect: As said, it has a nice finish but I have to say that it didn’t do anything spectacular for my lips. It keeps the lips supple enough while applied but I couldn’t detect any particularly nourishing effect. I usually put it on these days for walking the dogs. When I don’t wear makeup on winter weekends I tend to like something on my lips to protect them from the cold. The eos lip balm works quite well to that effect.

Verdict:

It’s a fine product but…no better than other lip balms I have tried (like Blistex or The Body Shop). That said, I DO like their all natural philosophy and the paraben and petrolatum free manufacturing. Nevertheless, I feel this product may indeed be a bit hyped and I wouldn’t have bought it if I hadn’t received it as a freebie with my last makeup order. I also find the regular price of nearly €6 a bit high. However, I will gladly use this product for as long as it lasts.

I always give these lip balms away in gift bags and as stocking stuffers…and the recipients always come back to me saying how much they love it. But I’ve never even tried them. Maybe I will get one for myself next time…they are pretty cute. :)

I should try it out as soon :)

I’ve been seeing these everywhere too and I’ve wanted to try it. Thanks for the honest review. Even though it doesn’t perform miracles, being natural is still appealing!
